In the battle of Ichigo and Hiyori, Hiyori gain advantage over Ichigo because Ichigo refuses to use his bankai and hollow mask. That’s a difficult for Ichgo to continue the battle and some more Visoreds and his inner hollow surface have limited his own power to attack Hiyori. However, Shinji told Ichigo that he must gain control over his spiritual energy and control inner hollow.

By the time Ichigo battle with his own inner hollow in internal world, his body turned into a hollow.
